Role Overview
As a Senior Data Engineer at United Airlines, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines and systems to support our growing data needs. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver powerful data solutions that enable data-driven decision-making and business growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable and efficient data pipelines to process and analyze large volumes of data from various sources.
- Architect and implement data warehouse solutions, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Mentor and guide junior members of the data engineering team, providing advice on best practices, code reviews, and technical solutions.
- Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Implement data governance solutions and security measures to ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies and tools to enhance our data infrastructure and support evolving business needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize data processes, reduce latency, and improve overall efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex data issues and provide timely resolution to minimize business impact.
Requirements
Mandatory:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering roles with a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale data solutions.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with a focus on building data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Expertise in SQL and experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Extensive experience with big data technologies and distributed computing systems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
- In-depth understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques, and dimensional modeling principles.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and services (e.g., S3, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and optimize performance.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive consensus on technical decisions.
Preferred:
- Experience working with advertising platforms.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
